The Trieste Coffee Festival is a widespread event dedicated to coffee that wants to contibute to spread a more correct “coffee culture” and promote its conscious consumption, through meetings and initiatives aimed at the “general public”. Now in its 11th edition, the initiative is designed to explore the history of the long-standing connection between coffee and Trieste, the traditions and innovations that have emerged over the years, and the characteristics and methods of coffee preparation, through a variety of activities scheduled for fall 2026.
The Festival will involve, as usual, crudists, roasters, producers, industry experts, historic cafes and new establishments and will feature meetings open to curious of all ages, workshops for children, events on the world of coffee and the famous challenge between baristas from Trieste for the best “CAPOinB”.
The “Capo in B Championship” is the famous competition among local baristas for the best “cappuccino in a glass”, one of the favorite coffees of Trieste. The competition, organized in collaboration with the FIPE of Trieste, involves the evaluation of coffee by a jury of experts who will analyze the visual appearance, the proportions between coffee and foam and the taste of four preparations, that must be done in a maximum time of 5 minutes, giving proof of manual skill and artistic spirit.
The first MOKA COMPETITION open to the public.
10 minutes of time for each participant to prepare the coffee which can be either already ground or in beans grinded at the moment. Communication to the judges of the recipe with quantities in grams and ml of water used. The moka (induction) can be brought from home as well as the coffee. Those without may use the equipment provided by the Festival organization.
And for those who want to have a workout and find out how to brew quality coffee with the vernacular “cogoma” can participate from 3 to 4 p.m. in the workshop.
Curated by Lucio del Piccolo (Historical researcher and collector of household appliances for the preparation of coffee)
During its various editions, the Festival has become a widespread event of a whole week along thematic paths in the city center, keeping its core within a structure set up with exhibition areas and spaces for conferences, workshops and competitions. Since 2019 it takes place in a historical area of the city called Piazza della Borsa, where a real Coffee Village is built.
The programme is currently being updated and may therefore be subject to change.
